Exciting News from Sgt. Windflower Mysteries

Two new books in 2021. And a new Audiobook on the way.
But first, here’s a great review of A Perfect Storm in the St. John’s Telegram:
“Martin delivers taut ninth instalment of Sgt. Windflower mysteries. So, much drama. But this is also a book with a domestic heart, and delicious home cuisine is savoured.”

https://www.thetelegram.com/lifestyles/local-lifestyles/joan-sullivan-martin-delivers-taut-ninth-instalment-of-sgt-windflower-mysteries-554599/

Safe Harbour, which is mostly set in St. John’s, Newfoundland will be released in May 2021. Sgt. Windflower is working at RCMP Headquarters as a Public Outreach Coordinator. He sees a poster for a missing girl one day on his way to work and then another a few days later. Suddenly, someone who is connected to the missing girls contacts him and, of course, he gets involved. Especially when one of the girls is from his neck of the woods on the Burin Peninsula. But he still finds time to make new friends, try some new dishes and enjoy his growing family. Another great Windflower adventure.

Buried Secrets which is Book 11 in the Sgt. Windflower Mystery Series will be out sometime in the fall of 2021. But before that there will be a new Windflower audiobook. A Twist of Fortune is being narrated by Frank Kearney who read the previous audiobooks and it should hit the airwaves and your audiobook store sometime in May 2021.

Good luck getting through whatever wave of the pandemic you happen to be in. There’s light at the end of that long, dark tunnel now and some good Windflower reading and listening to look forward to. Stay safe and stay well.

Thank you as always for your support of Sgt. Windflower Mysteries. It has been an incredible journey and we’re glad you’re along for the ride.

Why I’m Giving Books Away: The Sgt. Windflower Reading Equality Program

I have now published nine books in the Sgt. Windflower Mystery Series (plus Christmas in Newfoundland: Memories and Mysteries) and each time I have chosen to give away a number of copies, absolutely free. Not only that, but I actively seek out strangers or near strangers on social media to give them away to. Now, I am not giving away all copies of my books. I am neither rich nor daft and I am not particularly altruistic, but I do believe in helping people to read my book.

And quite honestly not everyone can afford to buy a book, especially new books. Tons of people are living on a tight budget, on social assistance or on a fixed income because of disability or not being able to work anymore. It’s hard to comprehend in this world of plenty, but twenty bucks is a lot of money if you haven’t got it and one of the ‘luxuries’ that many people give up is purchasing new books. They wait until they are available from the library or get them from friends or from the second-hand bookstore. I support libraries, but why do some people have to wait?

I realize that I can’t give anybody a raise in their monthly stipend to help them with their book budget, but I can help at least a few of them enjoy my new books, fresh out of the printer’s box. I believe in an idea called Reading Equality, a radically new concept that everyone should have access to quality, new release books. That’s why I am making 25 copies of A Perfect Storm available to people on a low or fixed income. I am advertising this offer on Facebook and Twitter and as the time of writing there are still a few copies left.

If you want one or know of someone who could use one but can’t afford it, just message me with the mailing address and I will send a copy in the mail. And yes, I will even sign them. No questions asked. You can send me a message thru Sgt. Windflower Mysteries or Facebook.

Of course, if you have the money, I hope you will consider buying a copy for yourself. Maybe even one for somebody you know doesn’t have the cash. Pay it forward. It works for me.

And if you want to help get this book into even more hands, ask your local library to order a copy. They’re looking for your suggestions. And if they don’t have the budget, tell them to contact me and we’ll make them an offer they can’t refuse.

First Review of A Perfect Storm, New Sgt. Windflower Mystery

Advance praise for A Perfect Storm

“A thoroughly compelling work that is hard to put down.”

Midwest Book Review

The ninth book in the Sgt. Windflower mystery series, A Perfect Storm, has the usually-quiet Newfoundland town of Grand Bank under siege from biker drug gangs who invade, presenting many new challenges to Windflower and Mayor Sheila Hillier as they simultaneously face crises at home and in the workplace.

More so than in past mysteries, Mike Martin crafts a sense of intrigue that is complex in its multifaceted subplots and special interests. This adds a delightful flavor to the story, creating a series of calls to action that can’t always be answered by effective choices.

It’s unusual to receive detailed family interactions beyond the professional level, in a mystery. Martin’s attention to detail in exploring these evolving relationships adds authenticity and compelling psychological touches to personalize the reader’s connection with Windflower’s life and world.

The result is a gripping murder mystery that not only expands the prior series but creates an engrossing stand-alone saga that is easy for newcomers to access. It’s a thoroughly compelling work that is hard to put down.
